The Labtech MMX-500 Language
Laboratory is a flexible and easy to use system for the
instruction of Languages. It’s wide range of features allows
the teacher to use many types of learning techniques and communication methods
to maximize the effectiveness of the training. The
multimedia approach lets the teacher use a variety of audio and visual program
sources to stimulate the students interest and to motivate them during learning. One of the key
concepts of the Labtech language laboratory is that it facilitates the use of
various training sources in order to bring the best speaking techniques, accents
and study methods to the students. In other classrooms without such a system
the teacher would be limited to instructing the student by using their own voice
as the only model. The end result in such a class would be limited to the
speaking talent of the instructor. With the Labtech system the teacher may draw
upon many types of voice audio and video sources to provide model speaking and
intonation patterns. The end result is that the students learn faster and speak
in a manner closer to the original pronunciation. This provides the teacher
with a powerful tool that allows the student to learn from the best sources and
increases the teachers capabilities by a large margin. Language is learned best when the student can observe and listen to native
speakers conversing in different situations. Learning a
language is not only about memorization but it is also learning about cultures
and how they express themselves. The visual aspect allows
the student to hear and see people in their original environment through
multimedia. This aids in the understanding of the cultural
aspects of the people and in understanding language usage in different settings.
Through the computerized language
classroom control system, many types of modes of communication and learning are
possible. The teacher can monitor each student or group of
students very closely. By seeing where they need
improvement, the exercises can be altered to focus on the places where the
student needs instruction the most. The teacher can
communicate to the students individually or in groups which can hold
discussions. The system provides a great degree in
flexibility in how it is used. Different class arrangements
can be set up, student progress recorded, and different types of sessions or
languages can be taught.
A student testing response
system is included which gives the teacher the ability to set up many types of
tests (which can be shown over the class monitor) and record the response of the
students to the questions. A students progress may be
monitored through his test responses. This system provides an excellent tool for intensive
language training. The teacher can conduct group lessons or
tailor lessons to the needs of individual students. The
intercom and monitoring
functions make it easy for the teacher to guide each student according to their
needs. In today’s language lab, listening comprehension is
often independent work. The student language recorder
features a digital voice memory that allows the student to repeat the last
section to aid in perfecting comprehension, pronunciation and understanding of
speaking intonations and patterns.
