RECONDITIONED ENGINES (Designation Code: ”R”)
Suggested use: These moderately priced engines are guaranteed to be in good running condition. They are very suitable for disassembly and reassembly work and engine tune-up training. The engine may then be test run after completion of rebuilding exercises. The Modular Dynamometer System may be used for power testing. These engines are the most popular ones from Labtech as the quality is very consistent and all parts function within normal tolerances. Students can still examine certain areas of wear and gain experience on a high quality reconditioned engine.
Engine condition: The main block of the engine has been disassembled and examined for damaged parts which are replaced. The unit is thoroughly steam cleaned and repainted. The engine is overhauled with a number of new parts as needed. The valves and head are examined, carbon deposits are removed, and valves are lapped. The carburetor or fuel injection pump is cleaned and adjusted (calibrated). The ignition system is overhauled. After reconditioning the engine is in a similar condition to one that has been repaired by an Automotive Service Center.
New Parts: Any broken or damaged parts are replaced with new parts. In addition all of the following parts have been replaced: lower engine gaskets, upper engine gaskets, crankshaft bearing (if needed), connecting rod bearings (if needed), piston rings, oil seals, manifold gasket, head gasket, some nuts and bolt are replaced. Spark plugs (glow plugs), distributor cap, distributor rotor, hi-tension wires, points, condenser, and carburetor gaskets have all been replaced.
For motorcycle units the clutch handle and cable, throttle control and cable are new.
Testing: The engine is mounted in the stand which has been selected by the customer and thoroughly tested with mechanical and electrical diagnostic equipment. All engines are guaranteed to be in good running condition and are put through test runs at our factory prior to shipment.
Stands: All parts of the selected stand accompanying the engine are new, such as the stand itself, electrical wiring, instruments, battery, exhaust silencer, engine holding fixtures, etc.
Warranty: Labtech guarantees that the engine is in a clean and presentable condition, that all major parts are functioning and that the engine is in good running condition. Please note that the warranty is void after students disassemble the engine.
Labtech catalog references: These engines are usually ordered as per the “Live Engines for Repair Skills Training” (EP-LRS and ED-LRS) and the “Engine Test Beds” (EP-TB and ED-TB)
USED ENGINES (Designation Code: ”C”)
Suggested use: These are very inexpensive engines which are suitable for tearing down and reassembly by student. It is intended for hands-on use for the training of mechanical skills needed in repairing and overhauling motors. Students will see actual wear on all internal parts. As the engines are not expensive, they are perfect for first time trainees with little or no previous practical experience who may be likely to damage parts while working on the engines. Units are also perfect for rebuilding exercises. A rebuild kit may be ordered to complete the overhaul as a student exercise.
Engine condition: Engines are from 5 to 10 years old, have been thoroughly steam cleaned and are complete with all basic operational parts intact and in reasonable condition. After cleaning the engine is painted to improve the appearance. Please note that these engines have not been disassembled and overhauled by Labtech.
New Parts: Only minor parts similar to a tune-up have been replaced, such as points, condenser, rotor and spark plugs.
Testing: Each engine has been test run and is proven to be in reasonable (although not perfect) running condition. Each engine has also been tuned and adjusted so it can run the maximum of its capabilities.
Stands: All parts of the selected stand accompanying the engine are new, such as the stand itself, electrical wiring, instruments, battery, exhaust silencer, engine holding fixtures, etc.
For motorcycle units the clutch handle and cable, throttle control and cable are new.
Warranty: Labtech guarantees that all the basic operational parts are included on the engine and that the engine can be run and is in a clean, presentable and satisfactory condition.
Labtech catalog references: These engines are usually ordered as per model EP-DRS or ED-DRS.
