The Labtech Automatic Transaxle Trainer
designed to train technicians about modern front wheel drive automatic
transaxles. This is a valuable teaching tool as the technology of automatic
transaxles has been undergoing many changes by becoming more complex over the
past number of years. Giving instruction on transaxles while in the vehicle can
be very difficult. The unit itself is hard to access and in-vehicle testing is
very awkward. This trainer is designed to overcome these problems.
The trainer features a full sized
reconditioned engine with complete front wheel drive automatic transaxle. This
has been mounted on Labtech’s engine test bed and all parts are completely
functional. Also included are the drive shafts and braking system. The braking
system is operable and can be used to provide a load to the transaxle; the
engine of course drives the transaxle. The entire unit operates just like on
the vehicle and all the parts and components are easily accessible.
Instrumentation is provided to demonstrate the operational characteristics.
Instruments include a speedometer and tachometer to show the operational speeds,
several pressure gauges are connected to the transmission to monitor internal
operational transmission fluid pressures. Brake pressure gauges are provided to
indicate load. The unit can be driven at different speeds and loads so that the
shift changes through the gears may be observed.
Comprehensive courseware is provided
including a text on Automatic transaxles and the manufacturer’s service manual
(Videos and computer discs can optionally be provided. It covers topics on how
the systems operate, testing procedures, fault finding and maintenance
procedures. For teaching of engine operation, tune-up, diagnosis, fault finding
and trouble shooting.
