BS-ABS-2

BOSCH 4-CHANNEL ABS TRAINER

The Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) Trainer is designed to demonstrate the theory and operational characteristics of today's modern braking systems, which feature computer controlled anti-locking or skid-control systems.  Many ABS systems of various types are being included on newer vehicles as it greatly improves the control of the driver during braking. For this reason it has become a major safety device in the prevention of accidents and collisions.

The Labtech ABS trainers have been designed with the cooperation of the Robert Bosch company which is the leading manufacturer of ABS systems and our trainers use original Bosch components.  The trainer has been developed not only to be just a simulator but the ABS system is fully functional, featuring a real ABS unit and a real Disc brake system which makes it ideal for student observation, experimentation and also troubleshooting.  Different friction values may be set for each wheel to simulate variable road conditions. Control of the braking action may be observed with either the ABS unit on or off.  The trainer is also fully compatible with Robert Bosch ABS testing equipment.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The trainer consists of a complete, fully operational, ABS unit which is typically found on passenger vehicles.  The ABS unit is clearly laid out on a display board that is mounted on a mobile trolley.  The major components included are: four original disc brakes with wheel sensors, a powerful electrical drive system with torque limiters for each wheel, master brake cylinder with pedal handle, ABS hydraulic activator (modulator) unit which is controlled by the on-board computer system (ECU), five brake line pressure gauges to show the pressure differentials from the master brake cylinder to the individual wheels.  The front of the trainer features  precise schematic graphic illustrations that clearly explain the operation of the entire ABS and braking system.  A control box is provided with a key type switch, power system light (POWER ON), ABS warning light (indicated problems) and an ABS operational light (ABS ON).  The trainer comes complete with a training course on ABS operation and servicing including student job sheets and a technical manual on ABS systems.  Also available are a series of options to enhance the trainer such as fault insertion systems, electro-magnetic clutch, wheel rotational speed display, DC current meter, power supplies, Bosch ABS test equipment and additional instructional materials.

OPERATIONAL DESCRIPTION:

During the operation of the trainer, the disc brake assemblies are rotated by the electric motor drive system.  Each wheel may be set with a different friction value by use of the mechanical torque limiters which are incorporated into each drive shaft.  This allows the trainer to simulate different road conditions.  To engage the brake system, the master brake cylinder pedal (handle) is depressed which illuminates the stoplight.  The unregulated brake force is observed at the master cylinder, by viewing it's in-line pressure gauge, and can be compared to the regulated brake force shown at each wheel or disc brake by observing disserving their pressure gauges.  Braking force is regulated by the ABS hydraulic modulator (activator) unit which is controlled by the ABS computer system, in conjunction with the data feedback from the four wheel speed sensor assemblies.  As a result of the brake force modulation and feedback system, no brake locking will occur even with the wheels  set at different friction values.  The brake system may also be operated without the ABS activated, which will demonstrate how an unregulated braking system works in conventional cars and the wheels will lock-up during operation thereby showing how skidding occurs.

TRAINING SYSTEMS:

There are two models available, the first is a three channel ABS unit (Model : BS-ABS-1) and the second is a four channel ABS unit (Model : BS-ABS-2).  These represent the most typical systems in common use today.  The trainer comes complete with all basic systems required for operation and training.  Three phase power is required for operation of the electrical drive system and 12 VDC power (from a power supply or automotive type battery) is required for the ABS unit.  Optional equipment and accessories are available to enhance the system as shown on our additional data sheet.
